Character is the property of the soul

Published:Feb 3, 2019

This world is only a stage for practice and preparation before we are given the opportunity to enter the eternal life in the highest heaven. Heaven requires the inhabitants to posses good character and be of pure heart. But how many of us are in possession of good character and a pure heart? How many of us have risen above anger, hatred, jealousy, malice, etc? How many of us has grown strong to be able to love those who hate us and to serve those who harm us?  You see these are certain characters that you must have for God is not interested in your skills and riches but  in your character. He wants you to be holy since He is holy. But since we naturally have tendencies that is opposite of what God wants and our hearts are inflicted with sin and malice we must practice well to overcome our shortcomings. This world with all its imperfections and inequities serves as just the right platform to practice divine qualities like love, forgiveness, etc. You see, character is not the part of the body, nor of the mind, but it is the property of the soul having direct impression in it. Character is inherent attribute of the soul itself as the power to burn is inherent attribute of the fire. Character is one aspect of what we call as the sanskar of the soul. No matter where does the soul go and in whichever body or realm it resides, it takes its character with us.  This is why some people are in possession of more goodness and integrity of character than others. By practising acts of goodness in everyday life we build our character and this becomes part of our soul and when we have improved and are in possession of the required character the doors of heaven open up for us and we get eternal life.
